Week 6 – Large Point Spread Means Trouble

NFL Football

Week 6 and sports books are beginning make their decisions on who are the top teams. Four games have 10 or more points. That could lead to a false sense of comfort this weekend. Pick wisely.

Week 5 Results

Against the Spread: 6-8
Head to Head: 6-8

Season to Date

Against the Spread: 25-28-8
Head to Head: 43-34

Bye Week Teams: Buffalo, Cincinnati, Dallas, Seattle

Thursday, October 12

Philadelphia at Carolina
Line: Panthers by 3½

Both teams are 4-1. Both have had some tough wins. I’m leaning towards the Panthers in this one. Although the Eagles could give Cam Newton a run on Thursday night.

Smooth’s Pick – Carolina (27-21)

Sunday, October 15

Chicago at Baltimore
Line: Ravens by 6½

The Bears will go with Mitchell Trubisky for the second straight game. This will be tough to win with that Ravens defense. Look for Joe Flacco to light up the Bears secondary.

Smooth’s Pick – Baltimore (30-16)

Cleveland at Houston
Line: Texans by 10

The Browns just keep on losing and at this point, they may not win a game all season. Their only good news, they won’t have to deal with JJ Watt, who is out for the season. It won’t matter.

Smooth’s Pick – Houston (34-12)

Detroit at New Orleans
Line: Saints by 6

The Lions with a tough loss at home to Carolina. Now, they’ll take on a fresh Saints team who are coming off a bye week. The point spread may be a little generous to New Orleans because of the home field.

This is my upset special!
Smooth’s Pick – Detroit (27-24)

Green Bay at Minnesota
Line: Packers by 3

The Packers coming off a come from behind victory in Dallas travel to Minneapolis for a division matchup against the Vikings who look to get a healthy Sam Bradford back. This could be an interesting matchup. However…

Smooth’s Pick – Green Bay (24-16)

Miami at Atlanta
Line: Falcons by 11½

A humiliating week for the Dolphins. They lose their O-Line coach and now they have to travel to the ATL, where the dirty birds can sense blood. More like vultures.

This is my lock!
Smooth’s Pick – Atlanta (44-13)

New England at NY Jets
Line: Patriots by 9½

A few weeks ago, this would have been my lock pick. And it very well could have been, but the Patriots have stumbled a bit the last two weeks. They’ll get back on track, for sure. But be very careful as the Jets are unpredictable.

Smooth’s Pick – New England (37-17)

San Francisco at Washington
Line: Redskins by 10

It’s safe to say that the Niners won’t get their first win of the season this weekend. In fact, they’ll run into a buzz saw with the Redskins offense. It’s gonna be a tough weekend.

Smooth’s Pick – Washington (33-7)

LA Rams at Jacksonville
Line: Jaguars by 2½

Both teams are 3-2 and weren’t expected to be contenders this season, but they can both make waves with whoever wins this weekend.

Smooth’s Pick – Jacksonville (33-17)

Tampa Bay at Arizona
Line: Bucs by 1½

The Bucs wasted an opportunity to win last Thursday verses New England. Arizona looks to jumpstart their sputtering offense.

Smooth’s Pick – Arizona (20-16)

LA Chargers at Oakland
Line: None

That’s because Derek Carr has said he wants to play this weekend. A bad move if you ask me. One bad hit and he could be out for the season. This will be closer than usual because of the uncertainty.

Smooth’s Pick – Oakland (14-10)

Pittsburgh at Kansas City
Line: Chiefs by 5

The Steelers are still stinging for their shocking loss to Jacksonville at home. No time for crying as they travel to KC to take on the undefeated Chiefs. This could be a chance to break the undefeated streak, but KC is tough at home

Smooth’s Pick – Kansas City (28-19)

NY Giants at Denver
Line: Broncos by 11½

The Giants have turned into “Team Turmoil”, and a lot of the blame goes to head coach Bob McAdoo. They looked flat at home, and they lose three of the top receivers. Now they travel to the “Mile High” city and the Broncos defense looks to continue the pounding.

Smooth’s Pick – Denver (34-19)

Monday, October 16

Indianapolis at Tennessee
Line: None

That’s because both teams have quarterback issues. Indy will have to do without Andrew Luck for another weekend. Matt Cassel will still be the starting QB. The colts have won 11 straight verses the Titans. That streak may end this Monday.

Smooth’s Pick – Tennessee (16-13)
